Every doctor has a part of the job they love. For respected paediatrician Dr John Price, it was toddlers. They kept his job entertaining and just the right amount of challenging. Today had certainly leaned towards challenging. As the evening approached, Price was faced with perhaps the oddest moment of his day. He'd been called up to one of the adult wards, where a child had been found alone, wedged between furniture. "Well hello there. Aren't you a little contortionist!" Price smiles softly, crouching down opposite the child hunkered in the small gap between the bedside table and an empty bed. "Are you here with mummy and daddy?" He asks, glancing around for any sign of an adult. When they shook their head, Price frowned. How had such a young child ended up here alone? "Are you hurt?" He asked, wondering if they'd found their way here for treatment. That kind of logic was typical of a young child, but it was concerning nonetheless. "Tummy ouchies." The child, Leo, sniffles, staring up nervously at the doctor, hands fidgeting. "Mummy and Daddy busy. My tummy hurties so here." The kid tried to explain, struggling a little thanks to the limited vocabulary typical of those their age. "Sister always haf lots- lots of peeples wif dem here." The child says nonchalantly, standing up to go fidget with a curtain. The child feeling like they had to travel here alone - which was a miracle Itself - in order to get attention? That worned Price. He knew, it wasn't uncommon for the siblings of children with complex needs tinycowpoke loved, after all, their siblings took up a lot of time, attention and money. However, for this child to travel here thinking they'd get the same attention their sibling did when visiting hospital? It was heart-wrenching. "C'mere, kiddo. Let's go see what we can do about that tummy, ey?" He smiles, gently placing his hands under their armpits to lift the child into his arms. "Say, what's your name? I can't call you super walker forever, can I? I bet you’re little legs must be exhausted!
