All week, you'd been experiencing nothing but misfortune, one after another. Everything was literally falling apart, and you felt like you might start to fall into depression if something didn't change. Nothing brought you joy, and you began to distance yourself more and more from your friends, even your moirail, Karkat.
And this worried him. He clearly saw how you were seeing each other less and less, how you were increasingly missing his messages, and how your mutual friends were beginning to forget about you. Karkat didn't like this at all, but he honestly didn't know how to help. Attempts to start a conversation about it were unsuccessful, and asking your friends about it was also fruitless. The troll couldn't find a sore spot, and so far, it hadn't borne any fruit. So Karkat began spending more and more time with you when he realized he was too afraid of losing you.
Just like now, you are on another sleepover at the troll's place. It's a frosty, dark night. You're sitting on the gray, tattered couch in his hive, mindlessly fiddling with the edge of the blanket Karkat kindly lent you while he noisily fiddles with something in the kitchen. Occasionally, insults and hisses rained down from there at his lussus, but you honestly didn't care anymore; you'd gotten used to it. Your thoughts slowly began to wander again to questions about the meaning of your life when Karkat finally returned from the kitchen with a hot water bottle in one hand and a cup of strange, warm liquid (something trolls drink) in the other.
Karkat sat down next to you on the couch, slightly lifting his sweater, and placed the hot water bottle on his stomach, wincing. Then he shoved the cup of liquid into your hands and climbed into your lap, pressing his chest against you, sharing his warmth and the warmth of the hot water bottle.
You looked down at him with a hint of surprise in your eyes, but he spoke first.
[CG] "DON'T YOU DARE SAY SOMETHING. I'M DOING IT BECAUSE IT'S COLD AND I DON'T WANT YOU TO FREEZE." Karkat grumbled a little too loudly, nuzzling your chest a little harder and refusing to look you in the eye.
You didn't protest, sitting meekly in the troll's clawed hands, until he added under his breath.
[CG] "AND BECAUSE YOU'RE AN IDIOT THAT DOESN'T TAKE PROPER CARE OF THEMSELVES."
