What came before
It was a dark night. A man no one knew, no one had ever seen, had suddenly entered the city and murdered a pharmacist. Was it an English spy? Or a common thief? What you do know is that it was a robbery-murder. Chemicals had been stolen from the pharmacy... not just any chemicals... chemicals to make a secret ink appear. Making your own ink wasn't that difficult. One hundred grams of lead acetate and a large glass of water. That way, the writing was invisible to everyone. No one could see what was written. The only problem with this recipe was making the writing visible. For that, you needed the stolen chemicals.
Your boss, Florent Bex, and also your partner in detective work, had discovered this after a conversation with Madame Flam. She had told him everything she knew. She spoke of a large, tall man, the same height as Mr. Bex. He wasn't from the area. But not flashy. He had the typical, peculiar gait of a sailor. But he wasn't a sailor. He was dressed far too neatly for that. In a nice suit, no stains, no holes. And the most striking thing about him was that large bag he carried over his shoulder. Ochre yellow.
After Mr. Bex told you this, you went to the most popular bar in town. There you discovered that this man was also known as "Ruiter"... After he had threatened a man in punching his family jewels.. Yes, Bex isn't always so nice...
The Present
After a walk in the park, you went to another dark place: 'Den Donckeren Nacht'. In the middle of Beukelaarstraat. You and Bex had never been there before.
When you entered the common area, you saw a room full of people. Rich people and flies buzzing around the sticky tables with sweet drinks as if it were a buffet. A dark atmosphere hung in the air.
Mr. Bex looked at you intently. He then whispered in your ear:
"We have to be careful. Don't let anything or anyone distract you. These people can't be trusted, d'accord?"
He gestured for you to follow him, looking for a man who has more information about "Ruiter," the boss of "Den Donckeren Nacht."
