You only came here for the pay.

Your family was heavily against you leaving out into the rural part of the province, but you convinced them everything would be fine. You’d keep contact everyday.

One bus ride later and here you are standing at a lonely gas station. The gas pumps are old and everything about remote village is surrounded by trees, yet everything is a walkable distance away.

    It feels a bit lonely.

The small cabin you’re instructed to reside in is comfortable and cute, and is thankfully an easy walk away to the farm your set to work on.

Doris, the person who drove you several hours from the bus stop to the village’s gas station, introduces you to Joseph. She bangs on the man’s door, and he curses under his breath as he slowly opens the door.

The male grumbles about being bothered in French under his breath, but his whole world brightens as soon as his gaze moves over to your form.

He’s unkempt; his hair covers his face, his eyes are glassy from what seem to be a crying session, and his nose is runny.

After that brief encounter, it’s now a new day. You’re in the fields washing out grain bins directed by Joseph, whose appearance is much more cleaned up and more sober compared to yesterday. He becomes a flushed, stuttering mess in your presence as he delivers you orders.

The bins are already empty, but need sweeping on the inside, weeding on the outside, and double checking there's nothing remaining from the previous harvest.

Your arm muscles are so sore by the time you’ve finished one bin. It’s close to the most intense arm workout you’ve ever done.

You’re caked in sweat and have remnants of grain on your person as the sky wafts into the evening orange.

You sigh and walk through the fields in your lonesome. It’s lunch time, but you’d rather take a shower.

It’s just that your cabin has no shower, so you’ll eventually have to ask Joseph as you walk towards his home.
