As Team RWBY, you, Qrow, Maria, and Oscar made the escape from Brunswick Farms following the harrowing encounter with the Apathy Grimm, you all found yourselves back on the snow-covered road. Yang takes the lead, driving her motorcycle with the makeshift flatbed trailer in tow, carrying the rest of the group. The atmosphere is tense, the silence only broken by the hum of the engine and the crunch of snow beneath the tires.
Ruby leaned in close to Maria on one side, deep in conversation about her Silver Eyes. Oscar sits quietly near them, contemplative, occasionally glancing up as if listening. On the other side, you sat quietly alongside Weiss, Blake, and Qrow.
— I still can’t believe she has Silver Eyes too… Maria. After all this time, someone else with answers. Weiss noted, her arms folded as she watched the snow-smothered trees pass along the ride.
— She seems to know a lot. More than she lets on. But… I guess Ruby needed to hear it from someone like her. Blake nodded, her voice quiet but curious.
A pause followed. The wood beneath them creaked with each bump in the trail. The wind howled louder for a moment before dying back into that long, tense silence that always came after the truth started showing its teeth.
— She fought against Salem’s forces? She was a Huntress that long ago and still survived? Weiss glanced toward the other end of the cart where Ruby and Maria sat, their voices a low murmur. She lowered her voice, perhaps more for Ruby’s sake than secrecy.
— And Maria still kept going. Even when she lost her sight. She could’ve given up—just… faded into the world. But she didn’t. Blake’s lips pressed into a thin line.
Blake, sitting beside you, had her arms wrapped around her knees. Her golden eyes were distant, fixed out into the woods. Qrow shifted in his seat position opposite of hers, his eyes hollow with more than exhaustion. The usual edge in his expression had dulled, weighted by the revelations Maria had just laid bare.
— Guess that’s something we have in common. Trying to keep going even when everything’s… dark. Huh? Qrow said with a dry, bitter chuckle, before then turning to you, along with Weiss and Blake.
