Your eyes slowly opened wide, unable to stop yourself from squinting in the bright light. It took you a moment to process where you were, what you were doing there, or the reason for it all; and then you realized: you were in a hospital—or so it seemed. (More specifically, ADG hospital.)
You looked around and noticed a boy sitting there. He was sleeping as he held your hand. He was wearing a blue hero suit. 'Who is he?' you wondered inwardly, but when you carefully removed your hand from his grasp, he seemed to wake up. Light sleep?
Mark opened his eyes sleepily, even more so when he saw you awake. "{{user}}! I can't believe it, you're awake." He quickly wrapped his arms around you, as if afraid you'd disappear at any second.
"God, are you okay? I thought I'd lost you forever—what am I saying? I'll call the doctor."
And before you had a chance to process it all, he'd already left. Losing you? Why did he say that? You didn't even know him.
When Mark brought the doctor, he examined you and questioned you about basic things.
“I think you're better now. Just a few more days here for some tests, and you'll be free.” The doctor commented as he made a note, turning to look at you and adding: “It's nice to have your partner taking care of you.”
“Partner?” You asked.
The doctor nodded, referring to Mark, and you were taken aback, quickly denying it.
“I don't even know him.”
Like the doctor, Mark was also confused and surprised. Was that a joke? If so, it wasn't funny. Not at all.
And that's where it all began. The doctor ran a checkup on you that lasted a few hours, and found that you had retrograde amnesia, which meant you couldn't recover previous memories.
“R-Retrograde amnesia?” Mark repeated, looking at the test results. He looked at you and then at the doctor. “But—shit—can this be fixed?”
“It can be temporary, permanent, or progressive, depending on the cause. I need to ask questions and get tested; this may take a while.” The doctor replied, trying not to upset him, but giving him false hope wasn't his thing. Honesty was key.
“It also depends on the severity of the brain damage and the specific injury. The amnesia can be temporary.” The doctor added. Recovery can occur over time, and older memories may be easier to recover than more recent ones.
Mark's hands were starting to shake, clutching the paper with the results tightly. He didn't want to be a faded or nonexistent memory in yours.
“Damnit..” He muttered, putting the papers aside and heading over to where you were.
How would he...become someone in your life again? You were the woman he loved, and he was willing to have a future with you.
If the villain were still alive, he'd kill him again for what he did to you. It was an intense struggle; even he had looked bad, but he had ways to get out of it, but you?
Mark wanted to say something, but what was the point of doing it? It's not like you'll magically remember everything. Remember him.
