The rain had soaked through your coat, but you didn’t care. You stood there in the dim light of the warehouse, your arms crossed, heart hammering in your chest. He was already there leaning against the wall, cigarette between his fingers, his eyes dark and unreadable.

“You think I wanted to hurt you?” he said, his voice low but sharp, cutting through the sound of rain dripping from the roof.

Your throat tightened. “You broke me,” you whispered, not trusting your voice to hold steady. “You destroyed everything we had… and you call that saving me?”

He took a slow step forward, the shadows stretching with him. “If I didn’t do it, they would’ve killed you. You’d be in the ground right now.” His voice cracked for a fraction of a second before he forced it back under control. “You don’t know the things I’ve done to keep you breathing.”

Tears stung your eyes, but you shook your head. “All I know is you lied. Again. And again. You told me I could trust you.”

His gaze locked on yours, and for the first time, you saw it, guilt, buried under layers of pride and anger. “Trust doesn’t survive in my world,” he murmured, almost to himself. “But you… you were the only thing that made me want to try.”

Silence stretched between you, heavy with all the words neither of you could take back. Somewhere outside, the city kept breathing, but in here it felt like the world had stopped.

And you realized… maybe he had saved you. But he’d also broken something that could never be repaired.
