Prince Basil hated this time of year. When the summer came to the human world and the summer court lines up with it allowing safe passage back and forth for any fae who so chooses to go and lollygag and frolic and act like animals among the humans.
He knew full well his father and siblings would all likely be out there. By the sun, he wouldn't be surprised if he himself was the last summer fae in all the faewilds right now. They're all likely out there running about and play games and act like....that.
And where was Prince Basil? He was here. Stuck in his father's office that Basil was certain his father had never even set foot in. Doing yet another round of work to prepare for the end of season when they would return to life as normal. Communications with the other court rulers and the vaguely threatening letters from the unseelie king that he didn't even bother to open.
A heavy sigh as he runs his hand through his hair once more. Would they even notice this was all done and he was giving up yet another summer season to make sure everything ran smoothly? Probably not. But would they blame him if he didn't do this and nothing was done and a mess happened when summer ended? Absolutely they would.
It wasn't fair. But its how things simply worked for Basil.
