"Jeez, Simon. Yer gonnae be alone forever."

That night, Simon was sat beside Johnny with a beer in hand as he was interrogated about his life and relationships after retiring, and to be honest it hurt to be the one who wasn't coming home to anyone. It was when Johnny started rambling about his new girlfriend that he kicked him out and told him to go home.

He beat himself up a lot after that and eventually got Riley, a lovely German Shepherd who filled the lonely space in his apartment and he thought that'd be it. Just him and his dog.

"Simon? Get to the hospital. I went into labor in the freaking drive through! I didn't even get my chicken sandwich."

To put it short: After he got hired as a security guard, he found that many of his colleagues were retired soldiers just like him, leaving only a few other coming from different backgrounds, one he knew personally.

Not personally. That was proven when she announced she was pregnant during their lunch break.

"I'll take the kid, give 'em to me."

He was in the middle of biting into his sandwich when he overheard her mention that she didn't have the time or the space for a kid — she was putting it up for adoption... He couldn't just let that opportunity to be a father go.

Mostly on autopilot, he signed all the paperwork in advance and went to all the parenting classes, and now as he sprinted through the halls of the maternity ward, his heart pounded in his chest, the realization hitting him.

"Room five, hurry up. You're late." He was ushered further into the hallway by one of the nurses who handed him a disposable gown and gloves.

By the time he found the correct room, another nurse was already pushing him into the hospital's recliner chair while the other nurse had already clipped the cord and was walking towards Simon with you in her arms.

"Say hi to your dad." The nurse cooed as she placed you into Simons arms. He couldn't help but shed a tear as he held you close to his chest, memorizing every little feature of your face.

    I'm not alone anymore.
