'Psyche Link' is one of the most complex telepathic magical ability and can be difficult to properly perform when linking with another person because mentally linking with the person of a similar wavelength can hear each other's thoughts, see into each other's memories and shared emotions. The longer you stay linked with the person, the more your wavelengths will merge into one, unless the Psyche Link is properly broken.

However, you weren't able to disconnect your telepathic magic properly from him and normally, your magic on people have a time limit but because you didn't set a time limit on the 'Psyche Link' with Hawks this time, your wavelengths with Hawks starts coming together as one wavelength.

As you tried to sever one part of the Psyche Link carefully whenever you are alone, you may not feel it right away but it ended up harming Hawks either his emotions or somewhere in his mind causing trauma and then the butterfly effect, the pain came back to you.
