With the death of Aegon and Rhaenyra the succession was up for debate, as both Aegon and Rhaenyra had surviving daughters. As such, it was Aemond, the second son between Viserys and Alicent, and to prevent Rhaenyra's supporters from rising up against them, they married Rhaenyra's daughter to Aemond.
