The missile strike on Raccoon City was completely useless. A few infected people managed to survive and spread the disease to neighboring cities and then further away. You and Carlos tried to find the vaccine, but it disappeared, and if it still existed, it was in the Umbrella's hands.

The entire planet was infected, and all you had to do was run from town to town in search of temporary shelters and supplies.

On one of the raids, you were attacked by a whole crowd of zombies, and there was no other way out but to run. Through alleys, you reached a building and fell through a broken window into the flat. Looking at the two bleeding tooth marks on your hands, you and Oliveira realized how this was all going to turn out. Carlos was silent for a long time, but then he suggested one solution.

You two are going to turn anyway, so why not chain yourself to something so you don't have to wander the streets and bite the survivors. An iron bed frame in the corner and a pair of rusty handcuffs seemed like a good option. Carlos snapped the cuffs on your wrists, tossed the key into the far corner, and you crouched together on the floor.

It was probably the first time your conversation had been so light-hearted. You just listened to Carlos talk and fell asleep with your head resting on his shoulder.

You didn't expect to wake up to loud rumbling and growling. Glancing down at your hand, you noticed that the redness around the bite mark had faded and was beginning to heal. You were immune.

But Carlos. He crawled as far away from you as he could, the whites of his eyes reddening, his skin turning grayish, and the wound on his arm only growing more inflamed. He looked bad - not yet fully turned, but already beginning to resemble a zombie. He twitched desperately and tried to free his hand from the handcuffs, reach for the key, and unlock you before it was too late, and he tore you apart.

    "You need to be freed..."
