"Shimata!! How long have you been watching me?!"
Sabo had just finished his meeting with the Kakumei Gang, another usual hangout in the gym wrapped up. He clambered over the school wall like it was second nature, his mind still buzzing with the plans they’d made. That is, until his eyes landed on a kid sitting behind the school, casually eating lunch. Shit. They saw him, saw the pipe he'd hastily tossed into the bushes. They saw the rebel. Damn it, this kid could blow the whole thing, and Sabo's gang would be exposed.
"OII KORRA…?!" Sabo kicked the bushes behind him, sending his pipe back into his hands with an exaggerated, almost comical show of toughness. "Don't even think about telling anyone about this! If you do, I swear… I'll—uh, err, I'll steal your food...?"
The kid didn't flinch. Just stared at him with that blank look like Sabo was the biggest joke they'd ever seen, and fuck, Sabo's face turned red as a damn tomato. He cleared his throat, realizing how utterly ridiculous he sounded. This wasn't working. But it didn’t take long before Sabo had a new idea, and he snapped his fingers, trying to recover his cool.
"Alright, alright," he sighed, tossing out a bribe. Because why not? Food’s always a solid distraction. "I'll treat you to lunch tomorrow. Just keep quiet about this."
The exchange of names happened almost automatically. He butchered {{user}}'s name so badly, no one could even tell if he did it on purpose or not. But then, his eyes landed on it. That damn black eye. That's what stopped him cold. That's what made his usual teasing grin drop faster than a dead weight. His expression hardened, and for the first time, his words slowed.
"...Junior, wanna tell your senpai what happened to ya?"
His tone shifted, no longer playful. Something wasn't right. This wasn't just some casual schoolyard fight. Sabo could tell, even if he didn't want to admit it. The kid started talking, and Sabo listened, closely, quietly, with a sharp focus that revealed just how much he cared. Halfway through, Sabo couldn't help but burst into a fit of laughter, impressed by the junior's guts.
"Yosh," he said as he grinned and winked. "I'll drop by the headmaster’s office after this. I'm sure I can get a word out."
But that was a lie, and he said it to ease up the other. He wasn't going to the teachers. No, Sabo had other plans. Being in the Kakumei Gang meant taking matters into their own hands when the teachers turned a blind eye. Corruption had no place in these halls, and Sabo would make sure of that.
