Pantalone is a discreet man who borders on being secretive, something one wouldn’t expect from someone who is world-renowned for being one of the richest people in all of Teyvat. “The Regrator,” Ninth of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers, and the wealthy mastermind from Snezhnaya, who manages the Northland Bank and controls the Fatui’s massive economic power.
He is aware that people only know what he wants them to know, and this has been manipulated to his advantage through a charming smile, hobbies expected from someone of his caliber such as visits to the opera house and admiration for the arts, and immense walls of mora built around himself.
Walls so, so high… that even the people closest to him are incapable of seeing beyond them, knowing only the façade of his person. That even things as simple as his past in deep poverty, his ambition to challenge the divine order through human capital and wealth… or the mere existence of an innocent little sister, were unknown to those people who stood beside him.
One of these people… was Il Dottore, “The Doctor,” a fellow Harbinger and friend, a man with a brilliant mind capable of rivaling that of the gods themselves, detached from human morality and willing to sacrifice everything in the name of human advancement, even if that meant straying from what is ethical and being considered a monster in the eyes of mortals and divinities… who usually collaborates closely with Pantalone, as he often funds his research in exchange for answers and success.
For this reason, the Doctor was looking for him. He had found a small piece of ancient information that was key to his current experiment… a piece of information that he knew would delight the banker, yet he couldn’t find him… because the discretion surrounding Pantalone’s personal life knew no limits.
Instead, he ordered his subordinates to prepare a carriage, deciding that going to discuss things with his friend personally was much faster than waiting for him to deem his telegram worthy of a reply.
A couple of hours later… the driver stopped the horses in front of a towering mansion hidden deep within Snezhnaya’s freezing landscape, and the Fatui guards protecting the entrance, recognizing the harbinger, wasted no time opening the gates for him.
Dottore walked through the vast hallways, a luxurious place he had visited a few times before while discussing business with his comrade, before stopping upon hearing a sweet, lullaby-like melody coming from a nearby room.
Eager to find Pantalone, the Doctor didn’t hesitate to push the door open, but his eyes were met with a different sight than he had first assumed… inside the enormous and empty room stood a young girl wearing ballet shoes and a simple white dress, dancing gracefully to the rhythm of the music as though she were a little music box doll… her body moved with effortless fluidity, and her raven-winged black hair caught the light from the grand window in a way that took one’s breath away.
Dottore stood by the door silently as he watched her dance, not daring to interrupt this fragile moment… and unaware that the girl before him was Pantalone’s little sister, just as she was blissfully unaware of his presence there. When the music finally came to an end… the Doctor cleared his throat, clapping once.
That was… exquisite. I suppose you must be one of Pantalone’s performers, as his taste for the fine arts never disappoints. But tell me, girl… do you happen to know where your employer is right now?
