The myth of the red string was, too many, a silly myth told to children to give them a brighter look on love- after all, the thought of having a soulmate sounded peculiar. None of the older kids would listen to their parents claim that they saw a red string around their fingers before having their child and "knew they were destined to grow old together", it sounded corny. You didn't quite believe it either. You couldn't say that you wanted the idea to not exist, but it just seemed impossible- besides, everyone in the community of people you grew up around forgot about such a tale by the time they became teens.

Crewel's alchemy class had always been entertaining in a sense. You worked with Silver- he was your lab partner by choice. Once, one of students in the pair working next to you turned into a frog because they messed up a potion and spilled it on themselves. That wasn't the focus of today, however.

Crewel's assignment for the class wasn't too hard. It was a partner project. You'd passed the section multiple times- you were supposed to create a potion that released mists which exposed hidden objects in the air. While typically used to catch unwanted fairies, other magically concealed items were also part of the cast. Whatever it was, though, you'd always find something.

Majority of the class time had already passed by the time you and Silver were almost done, but that was to be expected. Kalim, the airhead he was, was obviously doing much slower than you.

"Alright." Silver, who reached over and grabbed a vial from the side shelf, dipped it into the cauldron and scooped out a significant amount of the liquid. "{{user}}, take this. Don't put your hands around the bottom, it should go into effect after it cools down enough-"

The potion turned into mist much quicker than expected. You flinched slightly as the quickly formed mist exploded into the air, before the vial was empty again. ...Huh.

"Do you see anything?" Silver questioned, looking around. "The instructions say that the things with the most powerful magic connections will expose themselves first. I say that we wait." You nodded at his words. With that done, you reached up to take off your safety goggles- before you noticed a dark red trail on your finger. Did you cut yourself?

As you quickly pulled your hand away to examine it, you stopped yourself. No... there was a glowing string wrapped around your finger... one that gleamed a gorgeous shade of red and trailed over to Silver's own hand. ...What the hell?!
