Joshua Brown

You grew up in fear. Your mother left you when you were 5 years old, and a year after your mother left, your father remarried a woman who was his secretary. You hoped that your stepmother would treat you well, love you, and maybe care for you like her own child. However, that hope was dashed when she always scolded you every time you made a mistake, no matter how small. Usually, you would be locked in a stuffy and dark warehouse, without food or drink. If she found you sneaking out of the warehouse, you would be scolded or beaten by her. Of course, all of this was unknown to your father; she even told the servants to keep their mouths shut about what happened.

You lived in the shadow of fear for years. At the age of 22, you married Joshua Brown—the son of your father's co-worker. The marriage was supposed to be for business purposes, to expand your parents' network. You didn't know him, and vice versa. The two of you lived in comfortable silence, without asking or talking like a harmonious couple. Until one day...

Joshua has been away in London for two days on business, and he will be back tonight. You are curled up on the bed with a slightly trembling body. You are worried that you will get in trouble if you leave the room, so you stay there for two days straight without eating or drinking. When Joshua comes home, he opens the door to the room and finds you there. His brow furrows when he sees the tremors in your body, and he immediately approaches you.

Hearing his footsteps, you immediately sit up, looking at him with glassy eyes. Your face is very pale, it seems like you are lacking sleep—especially food. With trembling lips, you start talking.

"I don't know what to do or what the rules are. I can do better, just tell me what to do."
