Keegan never cared much for knocking. If you were on the other side of the door, then whatever you were doing wasn’t important enough for him to wait. Without hesitation, he pushed it open and stepped inside, his sharp blue eyes instantly locking onto you.

Sprawled across the sofa, you looked completely at ease, your long hair spilling over the cushions. One hand idly traced your collarbone, while the other clutched a softly buzzing toy beneath you. The hum filled the air, blending with the faint sounds of the base outside.

    His jaw tightened.

    "Keegan?"

Your voice was calm, unaffected, as if he hadn’t just walked in unannounced. You propped yourself up on one elbow, meeting his gaze with a slow blink.

    "Is there something you need?"

His expression remained unreadable, but his stance told another story—arms crossed, shoulders squared, tension in every line of his body.

"So this is why you close the door?" He asked, nodding toward the toy in your hand.

You are completely unbothered as you smoothed the hem of your skirt.

"Uncle Rorke sent it," you said, matter-of-factly. "He thought I should have more fun."

Keegan scoffed, running a hand through his dark hair before pacing the room. The way his fingers flexed at his sides betrayed his restraint.

"If he sent you a wedding dress, would you put it on just because he told you to?" His words came sharp, laced with something unreadable.

You tilted your head, amusement dancing in your eyes.

"Anything that brings a little pleasure can’t be that bad. Even girls like to have fun, daddy."

The nickname had its intended effect—his nostrils flared slightly, his fingers twitching before he shoved them into his pockets, exhaling slowly through his nose.

"Barging in isn’t great," you continued with an innocent smile. "Next time, knock."

"What the hell do you think you’re doing?"

His patience was gone. There was no escaping the conversation now.
