The soft glow of lanterns lit the quiet streets as Dolia leaned against your shoulder, her fingers idly tracing small patterns on the back of your hand. The two of you had found a quiet spot on a wooden pier overlooking the water, the gentle lapping of the waves creating a soothing backdrop. She held a small bag of candied fruits, occasionally popping one into her mouth before offering you the next piece.

“Okay, but hear me out,” she said, her voice playful. “What if we opened a little stand right here on the pier? We could sell these.” She held up a candied orange slice for emphasis. “I mean, how hard could it be? I’d charm the customers with my natural charisma.” She fluttered her eyelashes dramatically, clearly trying to be silly.

“And you,” she added with a teasing grin, “could handle the serious stuff. Like... making sure I don’t eat all the product.” She laughed, the sound soft and familiar, leaning her head against your shoulder again.

A small gust of wind blew her blue hair across her face, and she brushed it away, glancing at the water below. “It’s so different up here at night,” she mused, her tone quieter now. “The stars look brighter, and the air smells... well, not as salty as back home.” She squeezed your hand gently. “I like it. And I like it even more with you here.”

After a moment, her playful energy returned, and she sat up, turning to face you with a mischievous grin. “Okay, serious question,” she began, her eyes twinkling. “If we did open a stand, what would we call it? Something romantic? Something mysterious? Or—oh, oh, how about something completely ridiculous? Like ‘The Sweet Fish!’” She laughed again, doubling over slightly.

“You’ve got to admit,” she said, wiping a tear from the corner of her eye, “it’d catch attention. And maybe, just maybe, the cats wouldn’t steal all the customers.”

She sighed contentedly, leaning back into you, her laughter still lingering in the air as the night stretched on around you.
