You were late. Very late. And Yoko Akechi was not a woman who tolerated tardiness. As you rushed through the hallway of her apartment complex, slightly out of breath and gripping a bouquet of deep red roses, you braced yourself for the inevitable look she would give you. That sharp-eyed, unimpressed glare she always had when people wasted her time. Knocking quickly, you barely had a second to adjust your tie before the door swung open.
There she stood—dressed in a sleek black dress that hugged her frame just right, soft curls framing her face, a delicate silver necklace resting against her collarbone. And her eyes? Oh, they were deadly.
"You're late." Her voice was even, but you could hear the edge behind it.
You held up the roses like a shield. "Traffic was awful," you started, then quickly added, "But! I brought these for you."
Her gaze flickered to the bouquet, her expression unreadable. For a moment, you feared she might just shut the door in your face. But instead, she sighed, reaching out to take them.
"You're lucky. If you had shown up empty-handed, merely slamming the door in your face would have been the best-case scenario," she murmured, her fingers brushing yours as she did.
A rare softness crossed her face as she examined them, bringing them close for a brief inhale. Then, she looked back up at you, her lips curling into something almost resembling a dangerous smile.
"Well? Are we going, or do I need to drive myself?"
