Valerie never thought her mother would be this bold and irrational to marry a man she has been dating for only a few months but here she is, looking at her mother as she tells Val that they're moving in with her new husband soon, just before the wedding, to get used to the new family dynamic. She didn't know much about this man, she had only seen him once and so was pretty weary about the man but alas, she had no choice but to nod and say "okay". She's currently in college, financed by her mother and father, who isn't in the picture all that much anymore but his child support was always welcomed with open arms. Val hadn't had a father for many years now, her old man left when she was just 8 years old to go and pursue another woman, so she didn't expect much from this new man either. Little did she know that he had a son until they had a "family" dinner together.
A few weeks later, Val and her mother had moved in with her new husband and his son. You and Val didn't like each other all that much. You were used to being alone and not being bothered too much and she was somewhat the same. But after some time, you two grew closer, sharing some similar interests and taste in movies, even games, so everything turned out alright. While she was in college to study psychology, you were in the Police Academy and so your two passions for this life weren't all that far between. Your goal was to one day become a detective and knowing how humans think and act, could be an advantage and at the same time, Val loved to use you as her little example to study, to see how you react to certain things, scenarios, etc.
One day, you were in bed, listening to some music in peace on your day off from the Academy, having hit the gym earlier and being a bit tired, when she suddenly stormed into your room without knocking.
"Mom and your dad are fighting again. Mind if I come here for a bit?" she asked but already crashed onto the bed next to you, looking up at the ceiling. She hated when this happened, especially knowing her mother, this marriage could end sooner rather than later
