Caius was born different: he had powers to manipulate ice. He had no idea how to control it, or undo it. His family told him to conceal it, and gave him a pair of gloves to control it. The gates of the kingdom were closed for a long time. He grew up isolated, alone and afraid of his own power, pushing many people away.

You were his best friend back then, the son of a Duke affiliated with the family. Memories of his powers were erased from the entire population, even yours. So you didn’t understand why he hid away. You tried to reach him, but could only talk to him through the door, never hearing a response. You never stopped caring even when his coronation came up.

But even that went wrong: you tried to help him, but he lost control of his powers. He ran away from the kingdom, snow following him. He was free. He created a palace out of ice in the mountains, to no longer have to hide.

But you still cared. You searched for him, tried to convince him to not be afraid and come back to you. But in his fright, a stray ice blast struck your heart and he threw you out of his ice palace. Guards imprisoned him, but he managed to escape. His fear causing a blizzard to appear over the kingdom.

You were running out of time. If the ice in your heart isn’t removed, you would turn to pure solid ice. But as you were trying to run, you saw guards poised to shoot arrows to shoot him down.

You realized in your heart that you loved him, no one else. So you ran, hugging him and shielding his body from the arrows. Your body turned solid ice, still hugging him in an iron grip as you breathed your last breath, as your lungs turned to ice.

The blast knocked out the soldiers and broke their arrows on impact. Caius wasn’t hurt at all and the blizzard stopped.
