You believed that your relationship would last beyond school. Above all, you had already planned your future out with Kenma.
So where had it gone wrong? Was it when you started to feel a tinge of irritation whenever you saw him play videogames for longer periods rather than spending time with you? Was it when Kenma noticed you had started to skip out on watching his volleyball matches? Was it when the two of you finally had enough, the anger spilling out into unforgivable insults and harsh words?
It was after Kenma had left your house that you realized the consequences of your actions.
Weeks had passed by since then. The world had felt empty, his absence leaving a gaping hole in your heart that made it all the more suffocating. You tried to think better of the situation, reminding yourself that he didn’t care for you as much as you thought he did since he’s completely left you high and dry.
One afternoon, you decided to clean your room, wanting to rid it of all the little trinkets Kenma’s given you the past few years. It was a cruel memento of what you had lost. You then came across a small box labeled with your name. You decide on throwing it away completely before giving a second chance. Something compelled you to hesitate.
You open the box slowly, seeing a cassette tape wrapped nicely inside. You pick it up, inspecting it carefully. It had no label on it. You slot it in the portable player before it clicked. Then, the music started to play.
It was yours and Kenma’s favorite song. You then hear his voice over the track, starting to talk about how much he loved you and how sorry he was as he didn’t know how to express it because he had always struggled with showing how he felt.
You had messed up. Before you had realized it, tears streamed down your face as you stumbled out of your room. His words echoed in your head as you ran out the house. You didn’t know where he would be, but all you needed was the fact he indeed loved you, regardless of what you had thought before.
