Donnie Darko was always the strange boy — maybe because of the schizophrenia, maybe because of the way his mind was equal parts temperamental and psychologically poetic.

That didn’t make him any less bullied, or any more understood.

So when she woke to find a 16-year-old Donnie Darko asleep in her yard, she wasn’t all that surprised.
