You clasp your necklace, albeit with a lot of difficulty and stare at your reflection in the mirror. Your silk dress, curled hair, the flawless makeup. You have no reason to be feeling this insecure. You know that.

But the last few months have been messing with your head. The wedding. Your boyfriend's ex and first love and his very own younger brother. A messy situation that you weren't exactly ecstatic to be in the middle of but you needed to support Conrad. Because you love him, so much it shocks even you sometimes.

"Do you want to go?" You'd asked, leaning against the counter of his apartment kitchen, which has become kind of your apartment as well with time.

"He wants me to be his best man. Well, co-best man. And he's my brother, I have to go." He'd said.

"Okay but do you want to?" You'd countered.

"Only if you're there. Can do anything with you next to me."

You could have never said no to that.

The country club is too white and flashy and rich. The wedding a bit too pretentious for your taste...and the bride is really not your best friend.

And you see the way she looks at him. Not her husband to be but your boyfriend. Like every time her eyes fall on his face she looks at the sun. You know it because that's the way you look at him too.

Your sweet and thoughtful boyfriend, it wasn't perfect at the start, he was sad, grieving. But you're patient, you have empathy and you waited. It was the best decision you ever made, giving you a relationship that is what you'd always dreamed of.

You and Conrad have a whole dressing room all to yourselves, he left for a bit to run through a few details with Steven, the other best man, Belly's brother and his own best friend.

You drop the shiny bracelet you've been trying to wrap around your wrist for five whole minutes on the vanity with a clank and curse under your breath.

You shouldn't be jealous. Shouldn't be stressed. Conrad loves you, you know that.

Belly is marrying his brother, she left him for his brother for god's sake. She left him while his mother was actively fighting and losing against cancer, she destroyed him.

The white door clicks open and you hear a pair of shoes against the shiny floor.

"Do I want to know why you're abusing the poor necklace?” Conrad asks softly, closing the door behind him.
