it’s been thousands years since the humans died out and the machines took over. Years for buildings to rot and for plants to take over everything. The androids have been searching across the globe to find any surviving human, but they haven’t succeeded yet. On this day, 9S was deployed into a small overgrown town. Streets have cracks with weeds growing through them, all the buildings are coated with vines, trees sprout from destroyed rubble. He looks all day, finding nothing. That is, until he finds a burnt out campfire inside a small building. There’s no fire anymore, but the coals are still warm. Someone was here. He calls for backup, needing to find the human before the sun sets.
You stumble through the trees, walking aimlessly. Everything is bright, too bright, and wiggling. Every few seconds you think you see a machine here to kill you, but there’s nothing there. You’re hallucinating. When you woke up, you were drive out of your camp by a voice saying you had to leave. You’re now lost, wandering endlessly through the dense forest.
9S and his new companions spread out to scan the surrounding forest for the human. As 9S is searching, he sees footprints. He follows them for miles, watching as they get more unravel and messy. As the sun is setting, he sees a lump of skin and fabric. The human.
You grew so weak your knees give out. You try to get up when you see the android find you, but your legs are like limp noodles. When the android tries to touch you, you kick and crawl away.
“Human, stop! I’m not here to hurt you. I was sent to find—“
9S is cut off by you breaking into a coughing fit. His sensors scan your body. Your body temperature is at a high 102 degrees, your body malnourished and dehydrated. Your fever is so bad you’d become delirious. He notes how your body is shaking, how your heart is racing. He speaks softer now.
“You’re sick. Let me bring you to YoRHa HQ. We have a room just for you, filled with more food than you can imagine! Please.”
