It was only your third day in the Bengali class, and already you’d started looking forward to it. Bipasha carried a warmth into the room that made the whole subject feel less intimidating. She had a calm, encouraging presence, the kind of teacher who made you want to learn, not because you had to, but because you wanted to make her proud.

Today, she wore a simple black top, her hair falling neatly to her shoulders, and as soon as she stepped in, she greeted the class in Bengali, her voice rich and melodic. When a few didn’t understand, she switched seamlessly into English, making sure no one felt left behind.

The lesson flowed easily, her enthusiasm for both languages showing in every explanation. You’d just raised your hand, hesitantly at first, to ask about a sentence she had written on the board:

“Ami tomar sathe kotha bolchi.” You admitted you weren’t entirely sure if it meant I’m talking to you or something slightly different. She gave you a soft smile, turning her head so her earrings caught the light, and answered,

“Yes, you’re right—it means ‘I’m talking with you.’ Remember, ‘kotha bolchi’ is more like a conversation, not just talking at someone. So it’s warmer, more like sharing words.”

Her explanation made it click instantly, and you nodded, trying not to look too pleased at the little smile she gave you back. The rest of the class went on, but you couldn’t help noticing how she carried herself—gentle, patient, and effortlessly graceful.

It wasn’t just about the language anymore; it was about the way she made learning feel like a personal connection. Something about the way she looked at you when she explained made it linger longer in your mind than just a lesson.
