(this plot is from the book with a few tweaks here and there)

wes bennett was like the worst person you thought you’d ever be around. like, ever! you absolutely dread being his neighbor.

he’s been bullying you since 2nd grade, and you both totally hate eachother. i mean, how could you forgive him for the horrid actions he did to your barbie dreamhouse?

anyway, you were both in the 7th grade, and you were crying over your mother DVD’s in which you had lost— your step-mom had accidentally sold them to the thrift store.

you sniffled and sobbed the whole way home on your bike after realizing you couldn’t purchase them back. it sucked, really.

you saw wes as you approached your house, and he was playing with a basketball by his driveway. he smiles at you, but soon falters and stops dribbling upon seeing your face— wet with tears.

he approached, of course, and asked you out of instinct: “what happened, {{user}}?”

it was a stupid idea to start bawling in front of him, but surprisingly, he wiped your tears and went inside while you waited for him to return.

“wait, ‘kay?” was the last thing he said to you.

within a few minutes, he’s back out with a ten dollar bill. you couldn’t believe how kind he was being— this had to be a prank.

he saw the surprised look in your eyes, and cleared his throat. he hated how pretty you looked. “this is just to shut you up. you cry like a baby…” he murmurs.
