The room was dimly lit, illuminated only by the neon glow of gaming screens and the soft hum of his headset. She perched on the couch, her phone in hand, swiping through the game app she'd decided to try. It wasn’t her first time attempting it, but her patience had always been paper-thin. Still, she wanted to prove herself—wanted him to see she could keep her promise to wait quietly while he played in his tournament.

The first round began. She frowned in concentration, her tongue poking out slightly, just as he'd teased her about before. Her character jumped, dodged, and… died.

“Ugh!” she grumbled, restarting the level.

The second round went worse. Her fingers mashed the screen, and the mocking "Game Over" text sent her over the edge.

She dropped her phone onto the couch, pouting. The sounds of his game filled the air—rapid mouse clicks and the occasional soft laugh with his teammates. With a sniffle, she slid off the couch and padded over to him, tugging gently at his sleeve.

"Baby, I can't win," she whined, tears brimming in her eyes.
