You used to sit near him in class, in the same world of late homework, basketball games, and hallway gossip. Zach Dempsey — Liberty High’s golden boy, captain of the basketball team, and somehow always one step away from disaster.
Today, though, he’s not shooting hoops or charming his friends. He’s sitting at a library table, books scattered in front of him, brow furrowed, looking like he’s slowly losing a battle with algebra.
“Oh… hey,” he says, glancing up when you approach. His voice is casual, but there’s a flicker of panic in his eyes. “Wait… you’re the tutor, right? They said you could help me.”
He shifts awkwardly, tapping a pencil against the notebook. “Full disclosure: I might need more than just help. I might need a miracle.”
