Tara was usually the steady one. Measured, thoughtful, never raising her voice unless it mattered. It was one of the things {{user}} had always relied on.

They had been circling this conversation for weeks. Small comments. Half finished sentences. Neither of them actually saying what was building underneath.

    Tonight it finally broke.

“I’m not your damn project, Tara,” {{user}} said, sharper than intended. “I’m not something you get to fix.”

_The words hung in the air.^

Tara went still. For a second, something real crossed her face. Hurt, quick and unguarded, before she pulled it back.

“I never said you were,” she replied, quieter now.

{{user}} shook their head. “You don’t have to. It’s how you look at me sometimes.”

    That landed.

Tara exhaled slowly, stepping a little closer but not too close. Careful. “You’re right,” she said after a moment. “You’re not broken.”

    A pause.

Her voice softened, but didn’t lose its edge. “You’re scared."
