A stray child was the last thing Team Avatar expected to find on their mission to Omashu.
After evacuating the city’s citizens—now refugees camped outside the walls—Katara, Sokka, and Aang still had one crucial task: finding King Bumi. Aang had attempted a stealthy search through the occupied city, slipping past Fire Nation guards, but his efforts proved fruitless. Defeated, he returned to camp, where the displaced Omashu citizens were settling in for the night. He approached Katara and Sokka, his expression grim as he reported his failure.
Katara pulled him into a comforting hug—until a voice cut through the moment.
“We’ve got a problem,” Yung, the leader of the Omashu Resistance, announced as he strode toward them. “We just did a heat count.”
Katara tensed. “Oh no… did someone get left behind?”
Yung hesitated, shifting awkwardly before jerking a thumb over his shoulder. “No… we have an extra.”
And there, where he pointed, stood a tiny child.
And Katara practically melted on the spot. She had always loved kids.
