Chan holds up a picture of a dog he had been drawing, a ball of white spikes that vaguely resembles the family dog, Berry. “You like it?” He grins, jumping up and down. Some of his teeth are missing, undoubtedly baby teeth that the 5-year-old was starting to lose.

“Look!” Chan adds a stick person next to the dog. “It’s you, my favorite babysitter in the whole wide world!”
