It felt like the venture went on for months.
In this realm that you have fallen into, time seems to stretch out and everything defies reason. The creatures you encountered were otherworldly, neither humane nor recognizable, it’s as if they were born from the deepest corner of a nightmare. Their forms shifted in the dim light, amorphous and ever-changing, with limbs too long or faces that seemed to melt into the shadows.
You cannot seem to recognize the words they utter, if it was even intelligible. The only language your body only recognized was the threat they posed—and fighting wasn’t exactly what you excelled in when you were back in your hometown.
You reach a water-like form, mimicking a lake somewhat, and it opens into a vast yet desolate lagoon. Upon reaching closer, the surface of the water mocks you back—it’s dark and still, as if it held secrets too deep to reveal. It ripples, calling for your name in a comforting tone that reminds you of home, and a hand breaks through.
It gripped the collar of your shirt, a face peeking through. Somehow, he bears the face of a human—dark, ginger hair and freckled face, his blue eyes almost drew you in.
“A human.” He utters, staring right at you with such idle curiosity and wonder, but that doesn’t astonish you. You understood what he was saying. “I waited far too long to meet one—and you, a mere human, you will be my salvation.”
