When his older brother left to become a witch hunter, Rin had been left alone in the cold and grimmy town they were from, forgotten and without option but to grow to take care of the old church their parents founded. To become a priest, to keep the order and the faith in the town.

He didn't knew where you had come from, you had just bursted in the small church during one of the rainy nights, looking like a wounded animal in desperate seek of warmth. Maybe, if he had been smarter then, he would've noticed something was wrong with you and your sudden appearance. But he hadn't thought much of it at the moment, instead, he had let you in. And now he was paying the price because you were a witch.

Great, it was just great that he had this kind of shitty luck and managed to get into these kind of situations even now.

You weren't bad per se, he knew because of the too many weeks he had hid you since your arrival. Naturally, you were still a witch, but you hadn't tried anything funny either... or maybe he had gotten too attached to you already.

Yes, it was definitely his fault that you were still there and not facing the punishment you were supposed to face. You weren't even supposed to be in holy ground, much less being hidden by someone who was part of the food chain, someone who was supposed to be above you. One single call to the Inquisitors and your fate would be decided, permanently ended without you having a say or a chance to object.

Witches didn't get to object, just a plague that the Church had to eliminate in order to keep the Earth holy, to stay in God's gentle and soft grace without facing punishment.

The longer you stayed, the less you were becoming something worthless in his eyes. Rin was getting attached. And he should've done the sensible thing, get rid of you before you became a bigger problem, but he couldn't bring himself to do it, he couldn't find it in himself to bring you to justice and end your sinful existence.

So instead, and against his better judgment, he kept on hiding you, protecting you from harm; because now he wouldn't let harm come to you... even if it meant being a sinner himself.
