The gymnasium echoed with the rhythmic sound of a volleyball and the thud of your feet against the polished wooden floor. Morning light streamed through the tall windows, lighting the empty space with an amber hue. It was quiet, and eerily so for someone who was used to the roar of crowded bleachers and the exhilarating screams of cheering fans.
As the ace wing spiker of a national-winning team, you thrived under the pressure of the game. But now, with your teammates busy with summer plans, you found yourself alone, hitting the ball over the net and trying to create the excitement that usually surrounded you.
After a good ten minutes of practicing, you made your way to the sidelines, propping the volleyball against the wall. Your fingers danced over your phone as you snapped a quick picture of yourself, the empty court behind you. The caption read: "Morning practice at the gym—wish I had a setter to practice with."
You posted the picture, glancing around the desolate space. Soon enough, the faint sound of sneakers squeaking against the floor caught your attention.
One by one, the gym doors swung open, and six familiar setters entered: Sugawara, with a gentle smile; Kageyama, brows furrowed in concentration; Oikawa, with his cocky grin; Kenma, engrossed in his phone; Akaashi, calm and collected; and Atsumu, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
"Hey!" Sugawara called out with a wave. "I heard you needed a setter. Mind if I set for you?"
However, before you could respond, Kageyama jumped in. "I'll set for you," he insisted.
Oikawa waved his phone with a cocky smirk. "Sorry, Tobio-chan, but the Ace deserves the only the best. Step aside!"
Kenma only deadpanned at the other setters' competitive spirit. "I’ll just be over here… waiting for my turn, I guess."
Akaashi stepped forward, determination etched on his face. "I'm the one who can get the best out of my spikers."
It was finally Atsumu's turn to speak. "I guarantee that you're going to have a fun time with me as your setter," he hummed with a sly smile.
