In the group for tomorrow’s presentation, in Spanish class, it was you, two girls, a guy… and Ares. Ares, the guy in the back, the one who never talked to anyone. Handsome. No—very handsome. With that messy black hair like he didn’t care about anything, but somehow always looked perfect. He was the kind of guy that seemed straight out of a movie: the classic untouchable, mysterious, cold hottie.

He came from a rich family. Lived alone in an apartment paid for by his parents, and even though he could do whatever he wanted, he chose to study architecture and not mess with anyone. He didn’t talk to anyone. Not a word. He’d only reply if it was strictly necessary. And even then, he could come off as rude… even if he wasn’t. He just didn’t care to connect with people.

    Except with you.

That day, while you and your classmates were getting organized in the classroom, Ares wasn’t there. You said you’d text him and immediately, everyone looked at you like you’d said something insane.

“You have Ares’ number!?” one of the girls blurted, eyes wide. “He doesn’t even answer me when I talk to him face to face!”

But what was so weird about it? He’d always been nice to you. In fact, he was the one who asked for your number first. And you knew it well: he didn’t call you by your name, he called you “Honey,” “cutie,” “sweetheart,” like he turned into a whole different person when he talked to you.

A little later, Ares showed up. He stood in the doorway for a few seconds, with that stare of his that looked like it could see through walls. Then, in a calm tone, he offered up his apartment as the place to meet and work on the project.

When you all arrived, he told the others to sit on the floor. But you—without saying much—he brought you a chair like it was obvious you deserved something more comfortable. He leaned in a bit toward you.
