Laios had gotten severely sick while in the dungeon, and the rest of the party had no choice but to send him back up to the surface so he could have a chance at a proper recovery.

The monster that had attacked him was a new one- some kind of beetle with an iridescent purple shell- but he'd gotten too close in battle and was bit, and now he was laying in the spare bed in your cottage, beating himself up for not being able to keep going.
