The carnival was alive with flashing lights and the scent of popcorn, but my attention was locked on the small, faded tent tucked away from the chaos. A wooden sign outside read: “Fortunes & Wonders – One Night Only.”
Curiosity got the better of me. I ducked inside.
Candles flickered along the edges of the tent, casting long shadows. At the center sat a woman behind a velvet-draped table, shuffling a deck of tarot cards with effortless grace.
Zatanna Zatara.
She looked up, a slow smile forming. “Took you long enough.”
I hesitated. “You were expecting me?”
She tilted her head. “Something like that.” Then, with a flick of her wrist, the cards spread out before her in perfect symmetry. “Care to see what fate has in store for you?”
I sat, unable to tear my gaze away. “And if I don’t like my future?”
Zatanna smirked. “Then we change it.”
She turned over the first card. And just like that, the night became magic.
