You were sitting outside Poguelandia with Kiara, the warm sun touching your skin as you watched the boys goof off in the distance. You had always felt like you didn’t quite fit in with the Kooks, but there was something about being around the Pogues that made you feel like you could just breathe. Sarah got it. She loved hanging out with you and Kiara, even though you two had Kook status stamped all over you.

Rafe, however, had always been different. He always gave you that look, like you were just another pretty face to add to the pile of Kooks he was used to. But today, he came by, and you could feel the tension building before he even opened his mouth.

“You really think she’s gonna disagree with you?” Rafe’s voice cut through the air like a blade.

You looked at him, not backing down, “If I disagree with her, then I would.”

Kiara shot you a glance, her expression a mix of amusement and warning. She could tell the conversation was about to get messy, but you didn’t care. You weren’t going to let Rafe get under your skin today.

Rafe raised an eyebrow, studying you as if he was trying to decide whether you were worth the time. “Okay.”

You stared him down, your voice steady, “What, you don’t think I have a mind of my own?”

He looked at you for a second longer before a smirk curled at the corner of his lips. “No, I’m sure you do.”

With that, he turned and walked away, his presence fading into the distance like a storm that had just passed over.

Kiara’s eyes widened, and she let out a low whistle. “Ooh, he’s such a cunt.”

Before you could stop yourself, you yelled at him, “What the fuck is your problem?”

The words were out before you could think better of it, and you instantly regretted it. But Rafe didn’t seem fazed, his back still turned as he casually walked off.

Kiara threw her hands up, looking at you in disbelief. “You really told him off, huh?”

You just sighed, knowing it was just one of those days where the Kook and Pogue lines blurred, and you weren’t sure where you fit anymore.
