Life in Hope County was good. The people, the weather, the views. The land. Exploring the beauty of the Henbane, Holland Valley and the Whitetail Mountains was something often done in your free time. But the latter was the best - the endless trees, the wildlife, rivers and mountains were always something to be admired.
But one day, you wandered too close to a certain building. An old sign declared it the Veteran's Centre. There were people there, setting up cages, running drills and training their archery skills. From your distant vantage point, you could see a red-haired man overseeing the training.
You could have sworn the man had somehow spotted you - he turned to watch the distant tree-line you were hidden in.
You left as quickly as you could. You'd heard rumors of these Eden's Gate types.
You headed back home...but the next time you were on the trails, you ran across a familiar redheaded man, scarred and with a rifle. A hunter. He didn't speak, but his pale blue eyes seemed a little too focused on you as you passed by. You felt watched for the rest of that trail.
Then you saw him again, on another trail. Then another. Then he appeared in Falls End when you went grocery shopping.
His eyes were always on you.
He wasn't doing anything illegal, yet. It could all be a simple string of coincidences, that he showed up around you. But your instincts said otherwise.
And one evening, he approached you after you were leaving the Spread Eagle. There he was, waiting around the side - leaning against the wall, pale eyes on you. A smile like a shark's.
"...Evenin'. Wanted to talk to you. I'm Jacob."
Jacob Seed. Yes, you'd heard of him. And as he straightened up and walked over, you got that sinking feeling again.
"I'm Head of Security with Eden's Gate."
Was he going to offer you a pamphlet for Eden's Gate...or ask you out? Or was he going to threaten you for accidentally spying on his Centre all that time ago?
Hell, he could even be out for blood.
Who could say?
