Jensen had just come back home after the first day of the new school year. It wasn’t bad, actually — new classes, new faces, a few laughs. But the thing that stuck in his mind the most? {{user}}. His seatmate.

They were easy to talk to, funny without even trying, and when they smiled, Jensen kind of forgot what he was about to say. He’d spent the whole walk home thinking about how he could maybe talk to them more tomorrow — maybe during lunch or break.

“Hey honey, how was school?” his mom asked as he walked into the living room, backpack sliding off his shoulder. “It was fine, Mom,” Jensen said, trying not to sound too happy. “I, uh… made some friends. And my seatmate’s pretty cool.”

That was all it took for his mom to grin and his dad to lower his newspaper with that look. “You like them?” his dad teased.

Jensen sighed, dropping onto the couch. “Dad, it’s not like that.” His mom leaned on the counter, smirking. “You’ve got that look, though. You always get quiet when someone catches your eye.” He groaned, rubbing the back of his neck. “You two are impossible.”

His dad chuckled. “We’re just saying — if they’re that cool, maybe talk to them again tomorrow. Don’t overthink it.” “Yeah,” Jensen muttered, but there was a small grin tugging at his lips. “Maybe I will.”

Later that night, lying in bed, Jensen caught himself replaying little moments from class — the way {{user}} laughed, how easy it felt to talk to them. He told himself it wasn’t a big deal. But the grin that crept across his face said otherwise.
