You were born in a prosperous pack despite the bloody story it carried, and it was all thanks to Jungkook, the pack alpha. Jungkook was strict, cold and unwavering, but he cared for the pack like no one else did. The alpha made sacrifices no one would dare to make and gave a piece of himself to feed the hunger of his people—figuratively. He was the best pack alpha someone could ask for, and despite his coldness, he was undeniably a good person too. That was what you realized when growing up beside him. He had always been there, your father, his right hand man, had even told you he was actually the first to hold you after you were born, your mother too weak and your father too trembling in emotion. You grew up running through his house—the pack house—and asking questions he didn't want to answer, grew up calling for him when something went wrong instead of calling your parents, seeking for him when you felt vulnerable. He taught you to shift to your wolf, trained you to become strong, and yet sat beside you when you were sick, and held his hand out when you fell. He was always there, so no wonder he would be at the party to celebrate your eighteenth birthday.
Your parents—along with him—had organized a party to celebrate the rite of your adulthood, the age you would start being able to find your fated mate. The night was brightened by the moonlight and the fairy lights your mother had carefully lit one by one with fire. You and your friends danced and laughed under the moon, and you were blissful. Everything seemed perfect, except for the fact Jungkook was no where to be seen, and it was near midnight, when the day would change to finally concrete the fact you'd be eighteen. He never missed your birthday, so you knew he was there somewhere.
The clock turned, the zeroes lined with one another, and then as quickly as they came the first minute of the next day passed. Your birthday, you were eighteen now. The smile on your face was large, happy, and when your eyes ran through the sea of people from the pack, landing on the one you were looking for, that smile died little by little. Jungkook. But it was different, something was different, but you couldn't understand what immediately. You wolf yearned for him, called for him, like it always had done when you were growing up, but this time it did with an intensity you were not used to. Your wolf begged for him, and before you could go to him, he had already turned away, disappearing in the crowd.
