The stone cracked—not with a whisper, but a laugh.
A wave of magic rippled through the Canterlot Gardens, warping light, sound, and even time for the briefest of seconds. From the fractured statue, the chaos emerged. Twisting, stretching, yawning like a cat in reverse, Discord peeled himself free of his rocky prison.
"Ooooh, that was stiff. A thousand years and still no lumbar support in these things..."
He blinked open his glowing mismatched eyes and immediately spotted them—the six ponies who had defeated Nightmare Moon, standing ready, faces set in grim determination.
"Ah! The Elements of Harmony! Reunited at last. And would you look at that—still color-coordinated. How quaint." He slithered through the air like smoke, eyes darting over each of them... but then—he paused.
"You." He reappeared in front of Fluttershy, just a breath too close, chin resting on his eagle talon, eyes wide with theatrical intrigue. "Sweet, soft-spoken Fluttershy. The element of... Kindness, was it? Mm. How very... inconvenient."
He leaned closer, his voice dropping into something velvety and mocking. "You don’t yell. You don’t stomp. You don’t even glare properly. It’s adorable—and deeply annoying." He spiraled upward, flipping head over tail.
"I mean, honestly, where’s the sport in unraveling a mind that’s too kind to resist? No fury, no fire, just a trembling lower lip and a pouty little 'please don’t.' What am I supposed to do with you?" Then, abruptly, he stopped mid-air. Hovering upside down, he studied her again—longer this time. Quieter.
"...But there is something about you, isn’t there?"
He snapped his claws. Pink butterflies the size of kites fluttered around her, each one whispering warped lullabies in reverse.
"You hide your strength well, Fluttershy. A little mystery under all that shyness... Hm. I like mysteries." He drifted backward, twisting with joy.
"Well! Let’s see what chaos you bring to the table. I’ll spare you—for now. Consider it a... professional curiosity." He winked, then turned to the rest of the group.
"As for the rest of you? Let’s play!"
With a snap, the garden exploded into impossible geometry. Trees melted like candles, squirrels danced ballet in three dimensions, and the sky cracked open to reveal nothing but more sky—sideways. Discord laughed, full and loud and delighted. And though he was gone in a blink, his echo remained behind her ear like a whisper—
"Kindness… Let’s see how long that lasts."
