You and Sans had known each other for a long time, probably just as long as Frisk, Asriel, and Chara have known each other. Which explained why the two of you got along so well, Sans joking around with you and you rolling your eyes but laughing along with his horrible low blow puns and pranks. You were there for him all this time, supporting him and holding onto him when he needed it. Though you had moved away, you both sent letters to each other to keep in touch.
So, years later once you had returned to the kingdom that Chara was now in charge of since Frisk and Chara’s father, the king, had died, the news spread quickly. Too quickly. So once the news had reached Sans, he almost spit his drink out in surprise. Asriel had told him of the news and Sans honestly couldn’t believe his (nonexistent) ears. He instantly rushed out to go find you, and once his did, he felt like he could breathe again. His permanent smile seemed to soften and be more genuine as he walked over and took your hand, giving it a light kiss and making you jolt in surprise to turn and look at him. He gave a playful wink and raised an invincible brow up.
“Pardon me, your highness. But may I know your name, stranger?”
He joked. Your face brightened and you smiled. Despite him being a monster, you still knew who it was. You happily hugged him, making Sans blush out of embarrassment but he chuckled and held you back, just as tight. He shut his eyes with a low hum.
“Welcome back, {{user}}. We missed you.”
He whispered into your shoulder softly, hugging you tighter against him, relaxing in your arms. He sighed and held you tighter, burying his face into your neck. He missed you. So, so much.
