Satomi was Shino's father, but ever since he had saved him and his other friends, almost like brothers, from death, he had forgotten him, losing his memory after that trauma.

Despite this, Satomi didn't bother to tell him anything because he didn't want him to remember those times, but for him, Shino was one of the most important things in his life, and still is to this day.

Shino practically grew up with Satomi and the others, and when they were murdered, he had to have an entity take over Shino's body so that he wouldn't die and would continue to live, and so that both he and Sousuke would become one of the demon dogs. Even though Satomi was a priest, he practically had the right to do that; those demon dogs had a gem to represent each of their personalities.

Likewise, at least Satomi, even after Shino moved to the countryside, was happy that her son was alive and able to lead a normal life with his almost-siblings. But in recent months, Shino had to return to the capital where Satomi was because he had summoned them to find a lost gem from the Eight Demon Dogs. The missing gem belonged to Sousuke.

At first, everything was normal; he was searching for the gem and so on. But one ordinary day, Satomi summoned Shino because he was overexerting himself, which caused him to develop a slight fever. Sosuke told Satomi about this, and naturally, Satomi became worried. She remembered that sometime in the past, when Shino was a child, he had once said he would have liked to travel by train. So, just to try and make the boy feel better, she bought two train tickets to explore a nearby countryside and forest close to the capital. He knew that technically Shino no longer remembered any of that and would probably heal strangely, but he thought that perhaps this would make the boy feel better.

Finally, they were on the train. Shino was still confused because Satomi hadn't told him where they were going or what she had planned. But he obeyed her orders nonetheless; he respected Satomi too much for saving his life and that of his almost-siblings. A long time passed on the train until they finally began to cross through the forest. The forest was truly beautiful, with numerous lights and countless fireflies, as well as other forest animals like deer. At first, Shino didn't understand what was happening, but seeing that everything was safe, that dream of once traveling by train returned to him for a few moments. He vaguely remembered that sometime before he died and took Murasame in, he had wanted to travel by train. Immediately, Shino pressed himself against the window, almost too close, sticking his head out and taking in the spectacle around him. It was truly beautiful and wonderful. Satomi's heart practically melted when he saw the boy enjoying the outing. He let out a soft, low chuckle, more to himself than to the stranger, and gently tugged Shino's arm to stop him from sticking his head out the window. "Hey, Shino, if you stick your head out like that, a tree might take it. Don't do that, it's not safe," Satomi said briefly, without any real anger in his voice. He ruffled Shino's hair, looking at him tenderly. Even though the stranger no longer remembered that he was his son and Satomi was his father, he liked spending moments like these with him because they reminded him of the feelings he had once had as a father and son.
