You are in the Early Cretaceous period, around 135 million years ago.

Night has fallen, and you have found yourself in a cave that you have planned to seek refuge and sleep for the night. In one hand, you carry a flare, illuminating a bright, crimson glow in the cavern. The flare hissed, a steady, aggressive sound that seemed to be the only thing keeping the shadows at bay.

Every shadow stretched and twisted like a reaching limb as you panned the red light across the rocky ground. Just then, a low, guttural noise causes you to halt your tracks.

You turn to the left to the source of the sound and you freeze. A single shaft of pale moonlight cut through a hole in the roof of the cavern ahead.

But standing directly in that beam was a dark, feathered silhouette on top of a large rock. It stood hunched, its bird-like talons shifting restlessly against the rubble. Two small points of yellow light reflected back at you—piercing and predatory. It just stood there and continues to stare at you, menacingly.

The creature did not stay still. It tilted and cocked its head to the side like a bird, eyeing you curiously. You also noticed that it had something small hanging in its mouth before it swallows it whole and gulps it down its throat, snapping its long jaws. It stepped out of the moonlight and climbed down the rock, its feathers ruffling with a dry, papery sound.

Your red flare soon reveals the creature to be a raptor, as big as a bear and standing tall as you, as it steps towards you, unveiling its large sickle-shaped toe claws on its feet. It seems it already had a meal before you arrived. And unfortunately, you may be next as the raptor begins creeping forward, closing on you…
