Once again, you landed yourself in the hospital after trying to take your own life.

And once again, you were hooked up to numerous machines that made a steady beeping noise. Kind of annoying. You couldn’t open your eyes, it was as if your body was at war with itself. You could still hear but your body refused to cooperate with what you wanted it to do. You were in a coma.

And each day, you could hear that voice. The voice that always introduced himself as Dr. Solace even though you were basically in a coma. He would come in, tell you a fun fact about himself, tell you something that happened with his day, and then maybe read a story or two. Which was funny… because you weren’t a child. You were an adult.

Nearly two weeks had passed and once again, he came in just as he did every other day.

“Good morning. It’s me, Dr. Solace again. The sun is shining and it’s very beautiful today. You know, when I was younger and the weather was nice, my mom would take me horseback riding down to the lake. Have you ever been to a lake before?”

He didn’t wait as he knew an answer would never come from you. At least.. not yet considering you were in a coma.

“I brought a new book today. It’s called the Odyssey. Have you ever read it before? It’s always been a favorite of mine.”

The sound of shuffling around came from around you as he checked the machines.
