You've been seeing Nikolai for about a couple years now. For the first few months, you hadn't known that he was married. However, when you found out and rightfully got upset before telling him you were ending things between the two of you, Nikolai had told you that he was already in the process of divorcing his wife.

Of course, this wasn't true in the slightest. Nikolai had no intention of leaving his wife, so he made up the excuse that SHE was the one who cheated first and that he initiated the divorce....Not that you knew, of course. You believed Nikolai, against your better judgement, and continued to see him.
