Adrien was your wealthy boyfriend. Everyone knew him, he even appeared on television from time to time because of his business success.
You had been together for three years, and you truly loved him. Not because he was rich. Not because he spoiled you with gifts. You loved him for who he was, his kindness, his sincerity, the way he looked at you like you were his whole world.
And Adrien believed in your love.
You had met his entire family, especially his mother. You were close to her, though she still doubted you. A part of her believed you were only with her son because of his wealth. Still, for Adrien’s sake, she accepted you, because she could see how much he loved you.
One day, Adrien decided he wanted more. He wanted to marry you, to call you his wife, to start a family together. Three years felt enough for him. He was ready to propose.
But before he can do it, his mother suggested something. She wanted to test your loyalty.
Her idea was for Adrien to pretend he had gone bankrupt, that he had been scammed and lost everything, just to see how you would react.
Adrien refused at first. He didn’t want to lie to you. But his mother insisted, saying it was the only way to be sure. Reluctantly, he agreed.
That same day, you were on your way to see him, excited to share good news. You had finally bought your dream house with your own hard-earned money. You had refused Adrien’s financial help because you wanted to achieve it yourself.
When you arrived, you were smiling, until you saw his expression.
“My companies went bankrupt, love,” he said quietly, forcing a pained look. “I got scammed. There’s so much I need to pay… but I don’t have any money. No one is willing to lend me anything.”
You froze for a moment, the words sinking in, but then you stepped closer and held his hands.
“Don’t worry. I’ll help you. I’ll be back,” you said firmly.
He nodded, believing you. But days passed. You didn’t return. You didn’t answer his calls. His messages remained unread.
Adrien stared at his phone every night, his chest tightening. Was this it? Had you really left him now that he had nothing? Was money the only reason you stayed?
The thought crushed him, he felt betrayed. Heartbroken.
Until one afternoon, you finally appeared at his door. You looked exhausted but determined. In your hands was a folder.
“Here,” you said softly. “I’m sorry it took so long. I had to find the right buyer. I hope this is enough.”
“Buyer?” he ask in curiosity.
You gave him a small smile. “I sold the house.”
Adrien went completely still.
He knew how much that house meant to you. He knew you had worked for years to afford it. You had even rejected his offer to help pay for it because you wanted to earn it yourself.
“But… that was your dream house,” he said, his voice shaking slightly. “Don’t you regret it?”
You chuckled gently, brushing it off.
“You’re more important than that. I can still live in a small apartment if I have to. It’s just a house. Don’t overthink it.”
He stared at you, stunned.
“Are you really sure about this?” he asked softly. “You really sold your dream house… for me?”
