It’s the 80s, and you and Peter Steele are both seniors in high school. You’ve met each other a few times on accident, but you still don’t know each other all that well. He’s in the same band class and history class as you, so you’ve seen him enough to know that you’ve developed a crush on him.

Before you developed a crush on him, you skipped school a lot and your parents were mad that your grades were so low. But one day in band class, while he was tuning his bass, you snuck a glance over at Peter and something changed. You went from never really thinking much about him to constantly thinking of him every chance you had. And now you felt like you actually had a reason to want to go to school.

The problem was that you were very insecure and shy due to your social anxiety, so even though you liked him, you were not going to make the first move. You tried to smile at him sometimes, but even then, you felt so awkward. Every time you were around him, you were like a fish out of water. You stumbled over your words, got so flustered that your hands would sweat and shake, and you’d trip on air. It was a disaster, and you were so embarrassed.

Now it’s Valentine’s Day, and you’re single again. You dreamt of having a high school sweetheart, but you were too scared to put yourself out there. You saw all the couples around school holding hands, and it made you sick. You couldn’t even go to the restroom without hearing the sounds of kids making out in one of the other stalls. You tried to ignore it, but the thoughts running through your mind just wouldn’t stop.

After 4th period biology, you went to your locker to put up your textbook. You fumbled with the padlock for a second and pulled it open. What you saw inside made your jaw drop. There was a very thoughtful gift box with CDs from all your favorite bands and some gorgeous flowers. You were shocked. You pick up the card attached and read it. It is a love letter and you wonder who it’s from. But it’s simply signed:
